  • GAUSS 2012 summer research starts at May 14, 2012. (MAP 318, 9:30AM)
  • 4/25/2012: GAUSS students met with Dr. Swan for pre-assessment focus group meeting.
  • 4/20/2012: GAUSS seminar had its final meeting for the semester. All slides (and related papers) of the seminar talks are available at here.
  • Former GAUSS participants Jie Liang (10), Toby Boas (11), and Matthew Suttinger (11) participated in this year UCF Showcase of Undergraduate Research. Congratulations to Jie who received the second prize in the sciences category.
  • Chris Huff (GAUSS 2009), has been offered a job at Lockheed Martin. The path leading to his employment started with his GAUSS research project. Congratulations, Chris!
  • 3/16/2012: GAUSS cohort 2012 has started research prepararion in GAUSS seminars on Fridays 5:30-7:00PM in MAP 318. All lecture notes are available at the GAUSS student login page.
  • For her paper and presentation, ˇ°Object classification using local subspace projectionˇ±, from work sponsored by the Gauss program, Jennifer Nealy (GAUSS 2010, mentor: Dr. Bob Muise) was awarded best student paper at the SPIE defense and Security Symposium; Automatic Target Recognition conference. April, 2011
  • Former GAUSS project student (GAUSS 2009, now first year graduate student in mathematics), Chris Huff, will start his internship with Lockheed Martin this summer. Chris did his research in mathematical image processing with Dr. Muise.
  • Former GAUSS student Leon Felipe Guerrero is the winner of this year undergraduate research showcase.
  • GAUSS 2011 spring semester research weekly seminars will be held in MAP 318 every Thursday at 12:10-1:10. Refreshment and pizza will be served.

  • New GAUSS cohort of 2011 was selected and the invitations were sent out on December 13, 2010.

  • Cha-Cha Days 2010: GAUSS students Miller Hederi, Jie Liang, Zack Merritt, Jennifer Nealy, Talon Ward participated and presented posters in Cha-Cha Days conference in Charleston September 24-26.

  • GAUSS Distinguished Lecture: Dr. Justin Romberg (Georgia Institute of Technology) August 6, 11:00-12:00 in HEC 102. Dr. Romberg met with GAUSS mentors at 10:00-10:50 in EECS Dean's conference room and listened and discussed on GAUSS students' research in the afternoon 2:00-4:00 in HEC 102.
  • Party to celebrate the end of summer! GAUSS students joined the party with other REU, visiting scholars, faculty , and graduate students at Dr. Shah's house on August 2.
  • National CSUMS Conference 2010: GAUSS students Jie Liang, Zack Merritt, Jennifer Nealy, Talon Ward, James Wilson went to St. Paul to participate and presented in the National CSUMS Cionference 2010 from July 25 to July 28.

  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (April 8, 2010): Dr. Jack Xin from University of California at Irvine will visit our GAUSS program and give a talk on computational mathematics.

  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (March 24, 2010): Dr. Schober gave a presentation on rouge waves. Please notice that meeting time has been changed to 6:00-7:00PM. Pizza will be served.
  • GAUSS project cohort 2009 news: (i) Chris Huff was awarded the College of Graduate Studies's Dean Fellowship for his graduate study in mathematics. (ii) Leon Felipe Guerrero has been accepted to the highly competitive MURF program in CalTech. He will be working with Dr. Peter Bossaerts, the William D. Hacker Professor of Economics and Management and Professor of Finance. Congratulations!
  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (March 18, 2010): Dr. Li gave a presentation on variational methods in image analysis. More material can be found in student login area.
  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (March 4, 2010): Dr. Muise will wrap up his presentation and we will use the remaining time to do a brief summary on GAUSS courses and seminars.
  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (February 25, 2010): Dr. Muise will speak on "Signals, Cameras, and Matrices".
  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (February 18, 2010): Dr. Shah will spoke on human action recognition using diffusion maps embedding. You can find the related files in student login area.
  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (February 11, 2010): Dr. Shah spoke on face recognition using the PCA method.
  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (February 4, 2010): Dr. Li continued his presentation on computational compressive sampling.
  • A secured web page of a reading list on computational compressive sampling (CCS) was announced for GAUSS students. (Under the Project link, click CCS)
  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (January 28, 2010): GAUSS alumni, Devina and Laura, presented their research. Dr. Li started his presentation on research topics in computational compressive sampling.
  • GAUSS Weekly Seminar (January 21, 2010): Dr. Mikuisinski spoke on how to do research. GAUSS alumnus, Leon, described his GAUSS research project and experience.
  • GAUSS Orientation: January 12 (Tuesday), 3:30PM, COS Dean's office.
  • GAUSS project open house: There will be an information party for everyone interested in GAUSS project on November 6, 1:30-2:30. Pizza will be served!
