Thirty Year Celebration
On July 17th, The Center for Research in Computer Vision will host the 30-Year Reunion Celebration at UCF. This will start with a dinner party at Dr. Mubarak Shah's home on the evening of Sunday, July 16th, followed by a full-day celebration of events on Monday, July 17th. These events will include a breakfast and luncheon, speakers, panel discussions, and will close with a banquet dinner. UCF President, Provost, VP of Research and Dean of CECS will open the daylong event.
The national site for Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Computer Vision has been funded by NSF for the last thirty years through a series of 12 grants starting in 1987 for total amount of $2.8 million. Every year ten undergraduates from all over the country participate in this summer program at UCF.
During the last twenty-nine years more than 290 undergraduate students from more than 68 different schools all over the U.S. have participated in this program at UCF. These undergraduates have co-authored more than 80 research papers (in reputed journals ike PAMI, PR, CVGIP, and conferences like ICCV, CVPR, ICPR).
Approximately half of these participants have gone to graduate schools, fifteen students have written Honors in the Major Theses, several participants are now faculty members at different universities, and several participants have started their own companies. This year also, ten more undergraduate students will participate in this program from across the U.S.
We have been trying to reach out to all 300 students, so if you know of anybody who has participated in our REU Summer Program, but has not received the invite, please feel free to let us know their contact information.
